still a non swimmer

Yesterday I did 10 widths of the swimming pool. Does this mean I am now a swimmer? I don't think so, I am too nervous to go out of my depth and my style is somewhat different from my friends. My body is still too low in the water and my legs seem to have developed an action that is less like a frog and more like a drowning mouse. My head still refuses to get fully submerged and as soon as my body starts to float I panic and grab the nearest object. Thankfully I am usually near enough the side to grab that. I would hate passing swimmers to suddenly find my arms wrapped round them as I struggle to get upright. Practise makes perfect they say. I will keep on trying until I am happy with the result. Maybe then I will be able to term myself a real swimmer.

Hi Paula, At least you manage to stay ontop of the water. My problem is 'the deeper the water is the deeper I go'. thats without divers boots on, lol. Must be a boyancy thing. John

Very true John, I feel much more comfortable on top of the water than under it:) The secret is to stay in shallow enough water that when you put your feet down they still reach the bottom.
